Job Description: Forensic DNA Analyst
Position Overview:
The Forensic DNA Analyst is responsible for performing complex laboratory analyses and examinations on biological samples to extract and analyze DNA evidence. This role requires a thorough understanding of forensic science principles, techniques, and protocols to ensure accurate and reliable results. The Forensic DNA Analyst works closely with law enforcement agencies and legal professionals to provide expert opinions and testify in court proceedings when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct DNA analysis on various biological samples using established laboratory procedures and protocols.
2. Perform DNA extraction, quantification, amplification, and analysis using state-of-the-art forensic laboratory equipment.
3. Analyze and interpret complex DNA profiles to determine inclusion or exclusion of individuals as potential contributors to the evidence.
4. Prepare detailed reports and documentation of laboratory procedures, methodologies, and findings to ensure accurate record-keeping.
5. Collaborate with forensic scientists, investigators, and law enforcement agencies to provide expert opinions, consultation, and technical support throughout criminal investigations.
6. Maintain a high level of quality control and assurance to ensure accuracy, reliability, and integrity of DNA analysis results.
7. Stay current with advancements in forensic DNA analysis techniques, technologies, and industry standards to continuously enhance professional knowledge and skills.
8. Testify as an expert witness in court proceedings, presenting and explaining findings, methodologies, and conclusions to support legal proceedings.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, Biology, Genetics, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a forensic laboratory setting, with a focus on DNA analysis.
3. Strong knowledge of forensic DNA analysis techniques, methodologies, and protocols.
4. Proficient in using laboratory equipment, software, and databases specific to DNA analysis.
5. Familiarity with forensic laboratory quality control and assurance procedures.
6. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex DNA profiles accurately.
7. Strong attention to detail and meticulous documentation skills.
8. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to prepare detailed reports and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
